What is a Racing Stand?

Racing stand is a physical hardware design for players live in real apartments.

Unlike a regular gaming controller, serious racing players use full steering wheels, pedals, and shifters. It lets players simulate real driving in racing games.

Sim Rig to Racing Stand

Most sim rig are designed like heavy-duty furniture, offers maximum immersion and adjustability. They are large, heavy, and expensive.

Racing Stand, a lightweight version of a sim rig — easier to move, store, and more affordable, with a smaller footprint. Its growing market values both immersive gameplay and a modern, stylish home aesthetic.

What’s out there

The market covers performance and entry needs, but ignores home integration.

High-end options are bulky and not home-friendly, while compact ones feel flimsy and lack long-term quality.
None of the competitors truly address how a racing stand can integrate seamlessly into everyday living spaces.

Understanding Users

I interviewed 8 mid-core sim racing players and casual gamers.
Across all users, common frustrations emerged: ergonomics, storage, and cable management.

Ray

Midcore sim racer | 20 | Using Logitech
G923 Wheel and Pedal, Playseat Challenge
“My apartment is small, and this seat is just too bulky to move around.”
“Sometimes I don’t even feel like playing because setting it up is so annoying.”

Winny

Midcore sim racer | 20 | Using ThrustMaster TGT 2 + Playseat GT Lite
“The chair feels like an outdoor folding chair. After a while, it just hurts.”
“There’s no place for drinks, and the sharp edges keep catching my clothes.”

Summary of Painpoints

Current racing stands frustrate users with complex setup, poor storage,
messy cables, and designs that feel uncomfortable and out of place at home.

Setup & Disassembly

Most racing stands are hard to set up and disassemble, with most parts connected by screws.

Storage & Safety

When folded, the wheel sticks out and the pedals point up. This not only occupied unnecessary space but also creates safety issues in daily environment.

Cable Management

Multiple messy cables create visual clutter and make the setup look unorganized, reducing both usability and overall aesthetics.

Poor Aesthetics

Look unattractive and clash with modern living room interiors. They become more disruptive when the space is shared with roommates or family.

Reimagining racing stands as living-room friendly furniture.

Sleek forms and warm details that merge precision engineering with furniture-friendly aesthetics.

Design Iterations

From broad explorations to refined modular concepts,
this process shows how ideas were sketched, tested, and converged into the final design.

Key challenges included balancing foldability with stability, compactness with ergonomics, and modularity with ease of use,
while also integrating cable management and furniture-friendly aesthetics.

The final renders showcase a modular racing stand
that transforms seamlessly between immersive play and everyday living.
